Recommended for account-based apps with controlled data access
This is a scoped recommendation for the use case shown, not a universal optimum or an installed integration.
Core architecture
| Layer | Component | Role | | --- | --- | --- | | Input | App interface | User input • signed-in session | | Input | Access model | Owner rules • RLS policies | | Input | Project settings | Correct URL • publishable client key | | Core | Supabase | Auth • Postgres • policy-controlled data | | Quality gate | Access & data tests | Allowed access • refusal • valid records | | Output | Persistent records | Store data under the correct owner | | Output | App / dashboard | Read authorized results back to users |
Connection labels
1. Configure the client and user authentication 2. Inspect allowed and refused data operations 3. Read back the authorized persisted record
Blue lines indicate manual/local workflow steps. Purple dashed lines indicate a separately configured connection, which may include human gates; they are not claims that the entire path is unattended. Orange indicates review/refinement. Core diagram mode: configured.
Supporting tools
- Next.js / React: Provide the user-facing application.
- supabase-js: Connect the app to project services.
- Vercel: Host the app and trusted server code.
What to check
- Key placement: Keep elevated secret keys server-only.
- RLS behavior: Test another user cannot read the row.
- Persistence: Reload and read the saved record.
Optional extension
- Form / session: Submit valid input
- Server route: Authorize the action
- Supabase: Write the record
- Server worker: Process the event
- Resend: Send approved notice
Optional server workflow. Use explicit authorization, server-only credentials, idempotency, and delivery events. The database does not automatically send an email merely because a row was added.
Lean starter
App + Supabase Auth/Postgres + tested access rules. Add Storage or background workers only when required.
Example
Signed-in user submits a note → policy permits their row → reload restores it → another user is refused.
