Recommended for a repeatable local app development environment
This is a scoped recommendation for the use case shown, not a universal optimum or an installed integration.
Core architecture
| Layer | Component | Role | | --- | --- | --- | | Input | Application files | Source • Dockerfile • dependencies | | Input | Compose config | Services • networks • port mappings | | Input | Private settings | Local secrets • volume choices | | Core | Docker | Build images • run configured containers | | Quality gate | Runtime & data review | Logs • health checks • persisted state | | Output | Working services | Run the local app and dependencies | | Output | Volumes / backups | Keep and recover intentional state |
Connection labels
1. Build and launch the reviewed container setup 2. Inspect health, logs, ports, and stored data 3. Keep persistent data and recreate runtime safely
Blue lines indicate manual/local workflow steps. Purple dashed lines indicate a separately configured connection, which may include human gates; they are not claims that the entire path is unattended. Orange indicates review/refinement. Core diagram mode: configured.
Supporting tools
- Git / editor: Version app and Compose definitions.
- Database container: Optional local backend dependency.
- Test runner: Verify services behave as expected.
What to check
- Image provenance: Choose trusted and pinned dependencies.
- Network exposure: Publish only the needed test ports.
- Data lifecycle: Know which volumes hold important state.
Optional extension
- Git commit: Start a CI run
- Image build: Create the container
- Test services: Run isolated checks
- Review gate: Approve the image
- Registry: Store a release image
Optional container CI pipeline. Configure runner access, registry authentication, image tags, and dependency updates. Containers do not automatically protect exposed ports or recover lost volumes.
Lean starter
Docker Desktop + a reviewed Dockerfile/Compose file + the project's test tools.
Example
Local app plus test database → launch with Compose → inspect logs → verify persisted data → keep recovery steps.
