Vercel Setup Guide
Free
Deploy a reviewed practice website and verify the actual preview.
BEGINNER / GIT-BASED HOSTING
1. Set the stage
Use a small practice repository and a Vercel account. Learn the preview workflow before attaching a production domain.
1. Prepare the repository
Put a working site in GitHub. Confirm it builds locally or use a simple starter with no credentials or production data.
2. Import the project
Sign in at vercel.com. Create a new project, connect the intended Git account, and select the practice repository and root folder.
3. Check build settings
Review the detected framework, build command, and required environment variables. Scope test settings to the intended environment.
4. Deploy & inspect
Deploy and wait for Ready. Open the deployment URL, exercise the page, then make a branch change to inspect a preview deployment.
2. Lean working stack
| Stage | Role | | --- | --- | | GitHub | Version the site | | Vercel | Build & deploy | | Preview URL | Inspect behavior | | Human review | Approve release |
Arrows in the visual sheet show the order of work. External connections require separate setup. Optional tools may be replaced with ones you already use. This is a suggested stack for this task, not a universal optimum.
Preview before production
A successful build does not prove every button works. Open the deployed URL and verify the visible result and relevant server behavior.
Add services only when needed
Start without a database. Add Supabase or another backend for persistence; keep server credentials out of public client variables.
3. First practice task
Deploy a one-page practice site from GitHub. Change its heading on a branch, inspect the preview, and confirm which commit each deployment serves before considering a production merge.
Your setup is working when
The deployment is Ready, its URL serves the intended commit, and a branch preview can be reviewed separately from production.
Troubleshooting
Build fails? Read the first real error. Blank page? Check runtime logs. Old setting? Create a fresh deployment after updating configuration.
