BEGINNER / FORMERLY NOTEBOOKLM

1. Set the stage

NotebookLM documentation currently uses Gemini Notebook. Start with one notebook and a few sources you are entitled to upload.

1. Open the notebook app

Go to notebook.google.com and sign in with an eligible Google account. Create a new notebook for one specific topic.

2. Add a small source set

Upload or add the supported sources you intend to study. Name them clearly and confirm that the right versions appear in the source list.

3. Ask a grounded question

Ask for a comparison or explanation based on the selected sources. Open the cited passages and check that they support the answer.

4. Create & verify an aid

Use an available Studio output such as a report, mind map, or flashcards. Review it against the sources before using or exporting it.

2. Lean working stack

| Stage | Role | | --- | --- | | Trusted sources | Supply evidence | | Notebook | Ask & synthesize | | Study aid | Practice & review | | Source check | Validate learning |

Arrows in the visual sheet show the order of work. External connections require separate setup. Optional tools may be replaced with ones you already use. This is a suggested stack for this task, not a universal optimum.

Keep notebooks focused

One project or topic per notebook makes the source boundary clear. Do not assume a notebook can simultaneously read all your other notebooks.

Exports are separate copies

Changes in an exported document do not automatically update the notebook. Keep track of the original sources and export date.

3. First practice task

Using only these sources, explain the three most important concepts for a beginner. Give a short example of each, identify any disagreement, and link each claim to its supporting passage.

Your setup is working when

Important statements trace to the supplied sources, the study aid is accurate, and you can distinguish source content from your own notes.

Troubleshooting

Missing answer? Check source selection and content. Wrong detail? Open the cited passage. Missing output option? Check account availability.
