Create a clear practice space for team questions and learning.

BEGINNER / COMMUNITY TOOL

1. Set the stage

Discord is a communication platform supporting your AI work. Start with a private practice server and a browser or official desktop app.

1. Create & verify an account

Open discord.com, use the web client or official download, and complete account verification. Use an email you can keep access to.

2. Make a practice server

Create a small server for learning. Add separate channels for announcements, questions, and resources rather than one noisy conversation.

3. Set access deliberately

Review roles, channel permissions, and invitation settings before adding people. Test with a non-admin account if available.

4. Try one useful exchange

Post a test resource and reply in a thread. If using voice, choose the right input/output device and test the microphone.

2. Lean working stack

| Stage | Role | | --- | --- | | Discord | Discuss & ask | | Threads | Keep context | | Obsidian | Keep decisions | | Team review | Maintain clarity |

Arrows in the visual sheet show the order of work. External connections require separate setup. Optional tools may be replaced with ones you already use. This is a suggested stack for this task, not a universal optimum.

Keep bots optional

A server does not need an AI bot to be useful. Review the publisher and requested permissions before installing any app or integration.

Use channels with a purpose

Write a short channel description and naming convention. Keep durable decisions in an organized knowledge base, not only in chat.

3. First practice task

Create a private practice server with announcements, questions, and resources. Post one setup question, reply in a thread, and check that a test member cannot change administrator settings.

Your setup is working when

Channels are understandable, messages and threads work, and members have only the permissions intended for their role.

Troubleshooting

Cannot post? Check role permissions. No audio? Check input/output devices. Unknown bot request? Verify its identity and permission scope.
